Acupuncture relies on the use of ultra fine sterile needles that are inserted into specific points along the meridians. This process looks to stimulate the body’s natural healing response, helping to return to a state of optimal energy flow along the meridians, resulting in better wellbeing.

Our acupuncturists practice TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) having undergone comprehensive training over a number of years. Melanie and Orley additionally use 5 element styles of acupuncture. TCM treats the underlying physical cause of disease or imbalance whereas 5 -element acupuncture is based on the premise that your particular underlying ‘element’ is out of balance and upsets your equilibrium. This may manifest on a more emotional or spiritual level. As an integrated system it addresses the whole person, from the physical to the spiritual. Both systems of acupuncture are integrated.

There is considerable evidence-based research demonstrating the effectiveness of acupuncture, which you can find at the Acupuncture Research Resource Centre or the British Acupuncture Council. Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in treating back pain and the NHS recommends medical acupuncture in the treatment of back pain.
